For standard 3/16" diameter Vertexa™ masonry screws, you need a 5/32" masonry bit. For 1/4" diameter screws, use a 3/16" bit. Please check the specific size option you select—many of our bulk Contractor Packs include the correct ANSI-standard carbide-tipped drill bit right in the box so you can start working immediately.

Fastener snapping is almost always caused by concrete dust packing into the bottom of the hole. To prevent this, always drill your pilot hole at least 1/4" to 1/2" deeper than the actual length of the screw, and thoroughly vacuum or blow out the dust before driving. Use an impact driver, apply steady downward pressure, and stop driving exactly when the head sits flush to avoid over-torquing.

Yes, the screws can be easily backed out and removed. However, we do not recommend reinstalling a screw into the exact same hole. The first installation carves custom threads into the masonry substrate; driving a screw back into that same hole can strip those concrete threads, resulting in a significant loss of structural holding power.

Use the exact bit diameter and minimum hole depth specified for the selected fastener. Clean the hole as directed.

Do not assume the same capacity after removal. Install a new fastener in an approved location following the product instructions.
