DeckPro™ Metal-Joist Winged Drill Screws

Clear the Wood. Grip the Steel. Finish Flush.

DeckPro™ Winged Drill Screws are purpose-built for securing wood decking to steel joists. Integrated reamer wings create a clearance hole through the board, helping prevent premature thread engagement and board lift. The self-drilling point bores into compatible steel, where the wings break away so the threads can engage the joist and draw the board tight. A countersunk head seats flush for a smooth decking surface, while the protective exterior coating helps resist outdoor corrosion. Engineered for a tighter fit and a clean, professional wood-to-steel connection.

  • Flat head design: The countersunk head seats neatly into the decking surface, helping avoid raised screw heads for a smooth, professional finish.
  • Double winged thread: Reamer wings create clearance through the wood, helping prevent board lift. They break away at compatible metal so the threads can engage the joist and draw the board tight.
  • Deep positioning drive: The locating-hole design helps position the matching driver, making alignment easier for a steadier, more controlled start.

FAQs

What are DeckPro™ Winged Drill Screws designed for?+
They’re designed to fasten wood decking directly to compatible metal joists. The countersunk head seats flush for a clean surface, while the threads engage the metal below to secure the board.
Which metal joists are compatible?+
DeckPro™ Metal-Joist Winged Drill Screws are suitable for galvanized steel and carbon steel joists 2–4 mm thick, and aluminum joists 3–5 mm thick. These ranges refer to the metal thickness at the fastening point—not the overall joist depth.
What advantage do the wings provide?+
The wings enlarge the hole through the wood so the threads can pass freely, helping prevent the board from lifting away from the joist during installation. The wings then break away against compatible metal, allowing the threads to engage and draw the board tight.
Do I need to pre-drill?+
The winged drill point is designed to create wood clearance and drill into compatible metal in one installation sequence. Pre-drilling may still be required by your decking manufacturer, particularly near board ends or when working with dense hardwood. Follow the installation guidance for both the decking and fastener.
How do I choose the right screw length?+
Choose a length that accommodates the deck board thickness and required metal engagement, with enough clearance below for the drill point. Unsure which size to order? Send us your board thickness, joist material, and metal thickness at info@vertexastructuralfastener.com. Our team will help you select a suitable size.
Are these screws suitable for outdoor decking?+
Yes. The protective exterior coating helps resist corrosion in outdoor applications. For pressure-treated lumber, poolside projects, or coastal installations, confirm compatibility with your specific wood treatment, joist finish, and exposure conditions before ordering.
